By 2800 scientists had sufficient knowledge of bio regeneration technology to keep the non-dividing brain cells continually alive as long as it was receiving nutrition and sensory signals. With all the other cells that divided it was found that after a certain number of divisions the cells slowly lost their vitality and died.
With each copying of a picture a bit is lost each time and the copy fades to gray with time.
As brain cell do not divide, their lifespan is determined by the lifespan of the body they are carried in. It was seen that keeping brains alive outside the body in a lab was easier and safer than to keep them in a robot body. This technology advanced and eventually scientists and businessmen were able to offer assurance of indefinitely extended lives. They called this immortality. They proposed to keep human brains alive in various centralized safe havens for brains, and have them control their robot bodies by using a remote control channel. The safe havens for the brains were highly secured warehouse laboratories in highly secure locations. The company was called Heaven Inc. after an old forgotten mythical religion that also claimed immortality. And from that time on all brains in Heaven Inc. were called souls.
Heaven Inc. guaranteed to resurrect you to a new robot each time you wished and could afford it. It was governed by a committee of the highest respected and decorated scientists of the time. But it was not easy to get into Heaven Inc. as you had to be very rich.
To enter Heaven Inc. all you had to do was pay the hefty entrance fee and sign a non-binding non-negotiable contract, with many clauses, for eternity. If you could not afford a new robot body, you had the choice to work as a slave for 50 years. You had 1,000 years to make the choice before you would be disconnected for eternity.
Being disconnected was like going to hell.
In 2900 Heaven Inc. was almost breached by terrorists. The entire human race of souls could have been easily destroyed by this external threat. As it was not technically possible to copy souls into a backup, it was decided to move Heaven Inc. to the moon 30 km underground where it would be more secure.
The problems of humanity fired by greed persisted. Despite the health and abundance of life it was eventually decided by a majority that people could not live in peace together on the same planet. It was decided that it would be necessary to separate them forever. Three worlds were founded, the top world for a few privileged, the middle world for the many, and the bottom world for the most.
A suitable planet was found with lots of resources to exploit. It was the bottom world and was called Hell. Hell was set up for the greediest brains, and anyone else that choose to go there. Most chose to go there as it offered the most freedom, except no one was able to leave it.
The moon, renamed top world, was designated as the headquarters for the brain bank known as Heaven Inc. It housed the administrators to keep the new world order in order. Very few could qualify to enter this top controlling world. Most who passed the test to get admitted to the top world could not afford the very high entrance fees. And most who could afford the fees couldn't pass the test. Heaven Inc. was divided into 3 locations for security concerns. Two were buried deep on the moon, one on each side in case of comet strikes. The third was buried on earth.
The earth, renamed middle world, was reserved for those who wanted to live more communal and peaceful lives; for the meek and less competitive, and more cooperative souls. Nature was replanted and grew to it previous glory.
It was like a paradise.
People had to qualify and prove themselves worthy to enter the middle world, much like for entering a university. If you were found guilty of not living up to the high standards of the middle world you would be sent to the bottom world to exploit or to be exploited.
Life went on, and people lived the same way as they had lived when they first got their robot bodies many centuries ago. Their flying machines flew them around faster and farther to the past for their vacations. Their nuclear batteries were lighter and smaller. Their scientific research machines got heavier and bigger to see and discover lighter and smaller particles of atom nuclei that they were studying. And they learned and exploited all they learned. And their knowledge of the universe grew greatly.
At about 3000 scientists observed that the tiny cracks on the sun's surface made by the disposed nuclear waste that man sent up to the sun was threatening to sufficiently weaken the sun's surface.
The sun was like a hot air balloon with holes that were ripping apart and tearing its surface.
Sun flares increased with frequency and intensity. It was feared and predicted that the sun would implode into the center of the black hole and disappear from the known universe within a millennium. There was a great debate as to how to use this new revelation. The leaders decided to immediately search for a new home in the universe to accommodate humanity.
Despite their great knowledge of the universe, black holes remained a mystery. Probes were sent to study them but communication was always lost as soon as they entered. An expedition of souls ready to sacrifice their lives was organized to explore the black hole which was threatening all of humanity.
The latest consensus among the researchers was that a black hole is an opening to another universe. They theorized that their specially fitted diamond crafts would survive the great pressures and temperatures in passing thru the black hole and that their turbo charged nuclear thrusts would be powerful enough to get them back out.
I, Joe, the author of this account, cloned son of Dr. Ova, the founder of Heaven Inc. and my wife Lucy, cloned daughter of Dr. Fur, head of research and development, were chosen to lead 10 specially selected scientists. All hoped and had faith that the theories about black holes would prove to be correct. When the time arrived to sail off into the unknown, the 12 souls were disconnected from their docking stations and repacked in a specially designed robot for the journey. We had become brains again.
It was like Columbus setting off on his voyage.
Six diamond crafts sailed off, each carrying a male and female brain. Our mission was to populate a new universe. Our destiny was the black hole in the middle of our dying sun. Six diamond crafts sailed into their destiny. In a flash of an eye the tiny black hole metamorphosed into a big white bang.
It was like Columbus discovering land. It was like entering a candle-lit cathedral.
We saw suns already formed like candles with planets following them like moths, and we realized that we were alive. We all sighed a sigh of thanks and rejoiced. Our wildest hopes had materialized in front of our eyes.
Seeing that it was a new universe in the formation stage with suitable stars, I went back with Lucy to convert more souls to populate this new universe. The 10 remaining souls stayed to seed new planets in this new universe with the nature of our ancestors that we have inherited and preserved.
A few suitable suns were found and 3 suitable worlds were founded. We reconnected our brains to a docking station we brought with us. We were souls again all together and safe but separated from our sibling souls we left behind. We re-baptized back to robot bodies and bred nano machines until there were enough of them to build and operate chemical factories to build our laboratories.
Newborns once they were 18 years old could chose to be baptized by sacrificing their organic bodies for robot bodies. Females had their eggs removed and frozen for future use. Males ejaculated sperm which was also frozen for future use. This allowed brains to reproduce without making clones of themselves. Brains could chose at any time to form couples and mate with each other and have children.
Fewer and fewer couples chose to have children as many of the children were born autistic. They had very special finely tuned skills but totally lacking in any social skills. They were like frustrated robots with silicon brains. It is as if they had no heart or soul.
Fewer and fewer brains that were born to grow up chose to be baptized into new bodies. Even fewer chose to be admitted to Heave Inc for their immortal lives. When asked the reason for refusing immortality, most did not really know. The unfortunate brains were following intuitions and feelings from their hearts instead of thinking on their own.
They looked like tiny green angels.
We can design life but we cannot create it. We are only nature's guardian.
The 1st world was our new home. Our safe haven for docking our brains. Deep underground 2 storage building stored our brains, one in each side of the planet.
The 2nd world was seeded in the image of our planet we left behind and was given to new-man. We named it New Earth. It is the home of New-man and our experiment to study your experience.
The 3rd world was left to naturally evolve. It was our laboratory to prove what we believed - that intelligent life can evolve without a creator god.
Then we wrote our constitution.
